Sing for Simon!

The Larriers sang Christmas carols today in the IFSC in support of the Simon Community. It
was freezing cold and they did a brilliant job! Here are some photos of 2nd class.

Homes and family life - then and now

2nd class explored some of the differences between everyday life in the past and now - here are some of their observations! They all agreed that children seemed to work harder in the past in the home than they do now!

Light
Dane - they used a candle to see in the dark and now we use electricity in these days so we can see.
Callum - in the old days they used oil lamps and candles.
Matti - in the old days they used something called an oil lamp. They would light it in the night to go to the chamber pot.
Cian - back in the old days they used an oil lamp. They would also use candles. The fire would also give them light and heat.
Water
Cian - They used to get water from a pump.
Scott - They used to use pumps and now we use taps and fresh water comes out of them everyday.
Nathan - The children used to go out to the water pump and pump until the water came up and they would fill the bucket and carry it home. It was very heavy, sometimes they would spill it.
Dane - They used a water pump to get water in the old days and we use a tap now to get water to wash our dishes so we can eat off them.
Milk
Callum - Back in the old days they had to milk the cows with their hands and in the new days they use machines.
Cooking
Ben - They used fires to cook and we use cookers - it is easy now.
Matti - In the old days they used something called an open fire.

2nd class write about winter

We spent some time last week brainstorming all of the words we could think of to do with winter. Then we wrote some lovely stories about what winter means to us. Have a look at our stories and pictures below.

Halloween fun in Citigroup!

2nd Class spent the morning in Citigroup today. The class arrived to school in sinister, spooky and silly costumes and we set off for the IFSC. The day started with milk and cookies and the boys were treated to a magic show, art and a tour of the building throughout the day. A delicious meal in the staff restaurant ended a fantastic day out. The whole class behaved brilliantly and enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

Halloween arrives early at Larriers!!

Second class is replaced by a band of little Monsters!! Poor Ms. Price!!
Hope the Miss survives!!

What is your favourite hobby?

2nd class used a survey to find out which hobby their classmates prefer - football, swimming or computer games. We recorded the results for the whole class using bar charts. Each of the boys made a huge effort to display the information neatly and clearly. Here are the charts they made.

We made clay fish!

2nd Class worked with clay today and made some gorgeous fish! Have a look below at some pictures of the children at work.

Here is the poem that we used to inspire the work:

I Went Fishing

I went fishing,
Took some bait.
Didn't go early,
Didn't go late.

Caught eight fishes,
To put in my pail.
Seven were mackerel,
But the eighth was a whale.

The seven were easy,
To put in the tin.
But the whale caused me trouble,
Before I packed him in!

Took my catch home,
What did Mother say?
"Get those eight fish out of here -
We're having steak today!!"

Bugs - a report by Matti

There are lots of bugs in the world: butterflies, moths and other insects. They fly, crawl, jump and slither everywhere with their little bodies that are quite strong for little creatures like bugs. Bugs like to eat plants like leaves, grass, flowers and more greens. Bees buzzing around your garden doing their daily business in the early sunshine of the morning. Grasshoppers hopping off in the tall grass for supper. Wasps wasping off in the middle of the night. Bug Olympics - the world's premier bug athletes gather every four years in gardens, ponds and rubbish heaps around the world for the...Bug Olympics! Fleas are the top little leapers. They can jump 100 times their own height!

Our First Swimming Trip!

All about Roald Dahl's 'The Twits'

The Twits By Leon Grant
Mr and Mrs Twit are very mean to the monkeys. Mr and Mrs Twit are very ugly and disgusting. Mr Twit put glue all over the big dead tree and birds got stuck to the tree. He came out the next day and he collected all the birds and used them to make his famous Bird Pie. Mr and Mrs Twit went out to buy guns to shoot the birds. They even bought guns to get the Roly-Poly bird.
When they were in town the monkeys escaped. They got into the Twits’ house and planned the best trick ever!!

The Twits By David Conroy
Mr. Twit and Mrs. Twit are the most mean people I’ve ever seen in my life. I would say they look even worst to other people. They have their own monkeys. Even the monkeys do not like them. I don’t blame the poor monkeys. They buy guns, like shotguns and pistols. They shoot birds with the guns. The monkeys and the birds make their own tricks up. The Twits make the monkeys stand on their heads for twenty four hours. They always play mean tricks on each other.

The.Twits By Damien Dykas
Mr .Twit is very fat and he is a big man. He is disgusting! He eats worms and he is mean to Mrs. Twit because he was adding bits of wood to her walking stick, to make her think she was shrinking. She is mean to Mr. Twit too! When she would have a baby she would call him junior twit. Then she would buy shotguns to shoot the Roly-- poly bird. While they were in town, the monkeys escaped. They played a trick on the Twits. The monkeys put sticky glue on the ceiling. Then Mr and Mrs Twit thought that they were upside down because the monkeys turned the room upside down. They got the shrinks, because they thought that their house was upside down. They stood on their heads and their bodies squashed down into them!

THE TWITS By Travis Flood-Murtagh
Mr. and Mrs. Twit are the meanest people alive because they play mean tricks on one another. They put things in each others dinners and drinks. They were monkey trainers before they got married and when they got married they had a big falling out. They got their own monkeys and monkey cage. After all that, they made the monkeys do everything upside down. They called the monkeys the Muggle-Wumps.
Then one day a bird came, and the bird’s name was the Roly-Poly Bird. He tried to help the monkeys.
The monkeys were going to get their revenge on Mr. and Mrs. Twit. The monkeys painted the ceiling with sticky glue. Mr and Mrs. Twit went to town and came back with guns. When they did, they did not know what was going on. THE MONKEYS GLUED ALL THE FURNITURE onto THE CEILING. Mr and Mrs. Twit were very confused and didn’t know what to do. They stood on their heads, but that was a bad idea! They ended up getting the shrinks for real! Soon there was nothing left of Mr and Mrs. Twit at all!

Mr and Mrs Twit By Evan Bewley
Mr and Mrs. Twit are very mean to each other. They are as ugly as anything and disgusting. Their back is like a dump. They have four monkeys. Their names are the Muggle-wumps! They make the monkeys do everything upside down and that is very mean. I felt sorry for the monkeys. My favourite bit was the Roly-Poly bird. The monkeys were going to get their revenge back on them. The monkeys got into the house. They got the sticky glue. They put the glue all over the ceiling of the house, and moved the furniture up onto it. They made the Twits live the same way they had made the monkeys!

THE TWITS By John-Paul Sunner
MRS TWIT IS a VERY FAT, MAD AND DISGUSTING GIRL AND SHE IS A BIG BABY. MR. TWIT’S BIRD PIE WON’T BE HAPPENING anymore BECAUSE THE MONKEYS ARE GETTING TOO CLEVER FOR HIM.
THE ROLY-POLY BIRD IS HELPING THE MONKEYS.
The monkeys want to get their own back on the twits. They escaped from their cage while the twits were in town buying shotguns to shoot the birds out of the sky. The monkeys got the twit’s sticky glue. They stuck the chairs on the ceiling and everything else as well!

THE TWITS By Sheldon Smith
THEY ARE DISGUSTING PEOPLE AND THEY ARE FAT. MY FAVOURITE TRICK IS THE FROG. I JUST LOVE IT, AND THE STRETCHING OF MRS TWIT.SHE ESCAPED BY BITING THE BALLOONS AND MR TWIT GAVE HER THE FRIGHT OF HER LIFE BECAUSE HE TOLD HER SHE HAD THE SHRINKS. THAT IS WHY SHE HAD TO BE STRETCHED.
THEY HAVE A FAMILY OF MONKEYS LIVING IN THEIR BACK GARDEN. THEY ARE CALLED THE MUGGLE-WUMP FAMILY. MR. TWIT IS TRYING TO GET HIS BRID PIE BUT HE CAN’T GET IT BECAUSE HE IS TOO SLOW. THE MONKEYS STICK THE CARPET ON THE CEILING AND THEY NEEDED GLUE. THE TWITS GOT GUNS. THEY HAVE NO WINDOWS IN THE HOUSE.
THE LITTLE KIDS WENT HOME WITH NO TROUSERS ON THEM BECAUSE THEY GOT SUTCK IN TREE THEY WENT HOME CRYING.

The Twits By Dillon McCarthy
Mr and Mrs Twit are very mean to each other. They’re ugly and disgusting. They were even eating birds and that made me feel a bit sick. They played lots of horrible tricks on each other and I felt sorry for both of them .They even bought guns to get the birds, even the Roly-poly bird. Mr. Twit eats bird- pie for his supper every night. The monkeys got their own revenge in the end though!

The cats were fat at the Zoo. The Bats were on the roof. I was with Theresa. It was very hard to find the toilet. The Zoo was good.
