Welcome back

Welcome back Larriers! This month is speeding by quickly. The second and third class boys have been showing great enthusiasm and have really gotten stuck in. You can find out about some of our educational escapades below.

As part of science this month we have been learning all about bees. We hosted the schools first assembly and the boys of second and third class presented a short talk on the importance of bees and even answered some questions on bees from the audience. On the sixteenth of September we visited the Ark to see a performance all about bees. The boys were given a sneak preview as the play hadn't yet been released. Thank you to Thomas, Sharon, Leonda and Ms.Kirby for making the visit possible. Here are some snaps of us on the bus, outside the Ark and just before the performance.

This month in maths we have been exploring 2D shapes. We first experimented with tangrams, as you can see below the boys are really inventive and they made many wonderful creations.
Evan, Dominic and their tangram bunny.

Lucas and Lee decided to sort their shapes by size before beginning - a wise move!

Thomas Bannerman worked tirelessly and according to colour to create a red rabbit, a yellow horse and a green cat!

The boys extended their exploration of 2D shapes and went on to use lolly pop sticks to explore the number of sides on each shape.
Calvin and Jack worked flat out on this ten sided shape, known as a decagon.

Lucas, Lee and Patrick working away crafting perfectly shaped triangles, rectangles and diamonds.

In this photo Harley has constructed a ten sided shape (can you remember the name??) and AJ has made a hexagon.

Tommi and Arthur mid construction!

The boys were challenged to create a terrifying monster, can you think of a name for this scary fellow?

Finally the boys investigated tessellation which is when a 2D shape fits together infinitely without a gap - just think of a mosaic or the hexagon pattern on a soccer ball.
Tommi and Kaylem used triangles to construct this rectangle.

Johnny and Evan looking very focussed.

This month the boys have also been playing GAA, swimming, singing, painting, cutting, reading, writing, laughing and living the dream in the Larriers. We hope you enjoy our blog!
